    Patented features

All features of the main claim of DE 10 2020 117 662 at a glance: description, technical function and relation to the construction.

A patent claim has two parts: the preamble with known features and the characterising part after the phrase “characterised in that” — that is where the actually new content sits. Both parts are shown separately below.

Characterising features — what is actually new

    L1 > L2

    Clasp legs of different length

    characterising
    Description
Characterising feature: the medial and lateral clasp legs have different lengths along the longitudinal direction of the sole — the medial leg (7) is longer (L1) than the lateral leg (8) with length L2.
    Technical function
In the rearfoot the stiffening is deliberately asymmetric: it extends to different lengths on the inner and outer side.
    Relation to the construction
Lengths L1 and L2 are indicated with dimension arrows in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
    3c

    Tongue-shaped, lateral forefoot area

    characterising
    Description
Characterising feature: the stiffening additionally has a forefoot area (3c) that is tongue-shaped and reduced in width compared with the midfoot area (3a). It extends only over the lateral area, while the stiffening is recessed in the medial area.
    Technical function
In the forefoot the stiffening does not run across the full width but tapers narrowly on the outer side only; the inner side remains free.
    Relation to the construction
In Fig. 1 the area 3c is marked with a bracket at the top; the narrow tongue contour is clearly visible.

    Features of the preamble

    2

    Sole-shaped carrier

    Description
The insert has a sole-shaped carrier made of a carrier material. It gives the insert its basic shape.
    Technical function
The carrier forms the surface of the insert and is the part to which the stiffening is connected.
    Relation to the construction
In the figures the carrier (2) is shown with its outline (4) — it covers the entire sole area.
    3

    Planar stiffening

    Description
A planar stiffening made of a stiffening material is connected to the carrier.
    Technical function
The stiffening is the stiffening component of the insert. The specification does not prescribe a specific material; it refers generally to a "stiffening material".
    Relation to the construction
In the figures the stiffening (3) is drawn as a separate contour inside the carrier outline.
    3 < 2

    Smaller area than the carrier

    Description
The stiffening has a smaller area than the carrier, i.e. it does not cover the insert over its full surface.
    Technical function
The stiffening is deliberately limited to defined areas of the sole instead of running through continuously.
    Relation to the construction
In Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 the contour of the stiffening lies visibly inside the carrier outline (4).
    3a / 3b

    Midfoot and rearfoot area

    Description
The stiffening comprises at least a midfoot area (3a) and a rearfoot area (3b).
    Technical function
The stiffening is thus divided into functionally named zones that are shaped differently.
    Relation to the construction
Zones 3a and 3b are marked with brackets at the left-hand edge of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
    3b / 7 / 8 / 9

Clasp-shaped rearfoot area with heel recess

    Description
The rearfoot area of the stiffening is clasp-shaped: with a medial clasp leg (7) and a lateral clasp leg (8), between which a heel recess (9) is arranged.
    Technical function
Instead of a closed heel cup, two legs form a clasp; the area between them remains free of stiffening material.
    Relation to the construction
In Fig. 1 the recess (9) can be seen as an open area between the two legs.
    All features apply jointly
The scope of protection results from the combination of all features. An embodiment falls under the patent only if it realises every one of the listed features.
    Main claim verbatim
